LFGB Introduction In September 2005, the new law of German food and beverage (LFGB) replace the original law (LMGB), also called 《Food, Tobacco products, Cosmetics and other daily necessities Management Law》. It is the most important basic legal document for German food safety management, meanwhile, it is criterion and core for other special food hygiene laws and regulations to make. The regulation gives a general provision for all aspects of the German food industry. As a result, all food and commodities related to food in Germany shall meet this decree. Material or tool which contact with food must pass test, comply with the articles 30, 31 of the decree, then it can get the LFGB report issued by authorized agency to prove it doesn’t contain chemical toxic substance and can be sold in Germany.
The range of product covered by LFGB certification The LFGB test covers all materials, including those produced by the latest technology. E.g. chromium plating of grill, teflon coating of pan, etc.. The usual related fields includes：ceramic，synthetic plastic，PVC，plasticizer，paper product，leather，textile，cosmetic，tobacco and so on. The related products includes：toaster，electric kettle and other electrical appliances which contact with food；food storages, glass chopping board, stainless steel tableware，all sorts of kitchenware, bowl，spoon，knife，fork and so on.
The test items included in LFGB certification Usually, Articles 30 and 31 of the Food and Commodity Law of LFGB-German include the following test items. 1.The initial inspection of sample and material. 2.Sensory evaluation of odor and taste transfer 3.Plastic: the transferable composition analysis and the extractable heavy metal test. 4.Metals: composition analysis and the migration heavy metal test. 5.Silica gel, resin: the transferable or volatile organic compound test. 6.The special materials, examine the chemical hazard in accordance with German Chemicals Law
In addition, the regulation also include other test items: 1.Determination of certain AZO dyes used in textile, leather, polyester fiber and other commodities. 2.The harmful chemical composition analysis and heavy metal content test for cosmetic. 3.Determination of harmful composition analysis for tobacco.
